Bandwidth is the bandwidth resource that accounts receive for free each day, used to process basic transactions such as transferring TRX or activating new addresses. Each account gets a free allowance of 1,500 bandwidth per day. For example, a regular TRX transfer consumes about 300 bandwidth, meaning you can make around 5 free transfers per day. Once the allowance is exceeded, the system burns a small amount of TRX as a fee, usually only a few tenths of a TRX.

Energy: Fuel for TRC20 Tokens

TRC20 token transfers (such as USDT) rely on smart contracts, and executing contracts requires Energy. Taking TRC20 USDT as an example, a single transfer consumes approximately 65,000 Energy. When you have no Energy, the system will directly burn TRX to cover the shortfall. This fee typically amounts to several TRX, depending on network resource price fluctuations. If you frequently transact with TRC20 tokens, it's recommended to stake TRX to obtain Energy, as the per-transaction cost will be much lower.

How to Obtain: Stake TRX or Simply Burn

There are two ways. The first is to stake TRX to obtain Energy and Bandwidth; after staking, resources recover daily, making it suitable for high-frequency transfers. The second is not to stake and let the system automatically burn TRX to pay the fee, which is suitable for occasional transfers. Staked TRX can be unstaked, but there is a 14-day waiting period after unstaking. In the TronLink wallet, find the resources option, enter the amount of TRX you want to stake, and confirm. After staking, your available resources will increase in real time. If you only transfer occasionally, not staking and simply burning TRX is actually more hassle-free.

Real-World Example: Cost of a USDT Transfer

Suppose you have staked enough TRX; the transfer consumes Energy, so no additional TRX is needed. If you haven't staked, the system will deduct TRX from your balance as a fee. This fee is not fixed; it depends on contract complexity and network congestion. In common cases, the fee for a TRC20 USDT transfer is equivalent to several TRX. You can estimate it this way: multiply the current Energy unit price by 65,000, then divide by the TRX price. However, the actual deduction is automatic; you just need to ensure you have sufficient balance.

Common Misconceptions: Fees Have Nothing to Do with Address

Misconception 1: Slower transfers have lower fees. TRON fees are not priced by speed but by resource consumption. Misconception 2: A larger address balance means lower fees. Fees have nothing to do with balance; they only depend on transaction type and resources. Misconception 3: Vanity addresses have higher fees. Address length and content do not affect resource consumption.

How to Check Remaining Resources

Open Tronscan, enter your address, and on the resources page you can see the remaining amounts of Bandwidth and Energy. If the remaining amount is insufficient, the system will prompt you that TRX needs to be burned. This page also shows your staking and unstaking records.
